Valentine’s Day Plant Care Tips
What floral items did you receive from Valentine’s Day? We’ll walk you through our easy plant care tips and how to make them last:

For Flowers:
Cut & Remove
- Cut off the bottom ½-1 inch of the flower stems at a 45-degree angle using scissors or a knife. This will increase the surface area for water absorption and help the flowers stay hydrated.
- Remove any foliage that will be submerged in water. These leaves can quickly decay and lead to bacterial growth, which will shorten the vase life of the flowers.
- Remove flowers as they begin to fade and wilt.
- Once your flowers have died, we suggest composting your stems, if possible.
Extra Care
- Change the water if it becomes cloudy or starts to smell.
- To preserve your flowers, tie them together from the bottom and hang them upside down. You can also press your flowers; here are some tutorials:
- Try to recycle the floral wrapping as much as you can. If your flowers come in a plastic film, verify acceptance with your municipal recycling program. We suggest using The Recycling Program:
For Houseplants:

For Succulents:
- Keep them warm and try to avoid chilly or drafty spaces.
- Keep them in the sun. Succulents enjoy direct sunlight for 6-8 hours a day.
- For extra special succulent care, rotate your plant occasionally. This helps her get light all around, not just on one side.
- Be cautious when watering your succulent.
- When the soil is dry, only add small amounts of water to prevent overwatering.
