Growscape Launches EarthSafe Sustainability Platform, Setting New Industry Standard

Anchored by its inaugural 2026 Sustainability Report, the platform is built on three core pillars: ReSource Recycling Program, ReTerra, a groundbreaking compostable bioplastic, and ReAssure, advancing compliance leadership.

TWINSBURG, Ohio, April 22, 2026 — On Earth Day 2026, Growscape made a game-changing commitment by launching its EarthSafe sustainability platform, a comprehensive approach that solidifies the company as the definitive industry leader in responsible growth. Introduced alongside the company’s inaugural 2026 Sustainability Report, this revolutionary platform brings together:

  • ReAssure, Growscape’s commitment to advancing leadership in supporting regulatory compliance, post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials and long-term sustainability
  • The expanded ReSource Recycling Program by Growscape
  • ReTerra, a first-of-its-kind backyard compostable bioplastic technology, developed in exclusive partnership with Kaimarra Advanced Materials

Together, these three initiatives establish Growscape as the only U.S. horticultural container company with the regulatory compliance, recycling infrastructure, and patented, next-generation material science to fully meet the demands of today’s market and prepare its customers for what is coming next.

The 2026 Growscape Sustainability Report, a first for a U.S. horticultural container company, reflects a full year of operations following its 2024 merger of The HC Companies and Classic Home & Garden, and sets a transparent, data-driven baseline across five key pillars: Sustainable Product Innovation, Sustainable Operations, Our People, Community Impact, and Governance.

Key highlights from the report include:

  • Awarded The Home Depot’s 2025 Outdoor Garden Partner of the Year, recognizing Growscape’s deep commitment to innovation, sustainability, and shared values
  • Use of 50% recycled material across the corporate portfolio, including 20% post-consumer recycled content
  • A third party validated Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions baseline, a benchmark achieved by only 15% of companies globally, according to a 2024 Deloitte study
  • A 3% reduction year-over-year in Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions per pound produced, building upon an 18% reduction the year prior
  • Approximately 1,500 metric tons of transportation-related CO₂ eliminated annually through the opening of a co-located manufacturing and warehouse storage center in Middlefield, Ohio
  • Industry-leading safety record: a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) of 2.72 in 2025, beating the industry average by 28%.

“Sustainability is not a department at Growscape. It is how we all work together. This report is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our team. We have made significant, measurable progress in our first year as a unified company, and we are only getting started. Our goal has always been to lead this industry by example, with tangible proof points—not just in the products we produce, but in the choices we make every single day. Our announcement today represents our commitment for a more sustainable future, and I am proud of this talented team that made it happen.”

The ReAssure program represents Growscape’s proactive commitment to staying ahead of evolving state regulations, ensuring its own registration and compliance while providing all necessary support for customers in fulfilling their own compliance obligations. Growscape is also the only horticultural container company in the United States fully registered and compliant across all applicable state plastic regulations, including New Jersey, Oregon, California, and Colorado, providing growers and retail partners with the proper education, resources, and audit-ready documentation.

Growscape is formally launching its ReSource Recycling Program, a scalable, no-cost solution designed to help growers recycle and dramatically reduce waste across the horticulture supply chain. The program accepts a broader range of materials than any comparable industry initiative and leverages a national network of recycling partners to maximize environmental benefits.

The ReSource Recycling Program by Growscape delivers three core advantages:

  • More Materials Accepted: Plastic, corrugate, paper, glass, pallets, and metal
  • National Recycler Network: Local and regional partners that minimize transit costs and increase program efficiency, further reducing carbon emissions
  • Better Data & Reporting: Supporting grower sustainability reporting and documented data for retailers’ sustainability scorecards

In what represents the most disruptive product innovation in the horticultural container category in decades, Growscape is unveiling ReTerra, a first-of-its-kind biodegradable plastic growing container developed in partnership with Kaimarra Advanced Materials, whose technology originated at the Warner Babcock Institute for Green Chemistry, founded by Dr. John Warner.  This patented biodegradable material is engineered to leave zero microplastics in the soil.

Unlike existing bioplastic alternatives that are brittle, limited in size, and remain in soil for years, Growscape’s ReTerra bioplastic technology delivers on four dimensions no current competitor can match:

  • Truly plantable and home compostable: A live plant can be placed directly into the ground in the pot, where the container biodegrades fully within months with no toxic chemicals or microplastics left behind
  • Flexible and moldable at scale: Manufacturable in multiple sizes including rounds over one gallon, unlike competing bioplastic products limited to smaller formats
  • Controllable degradation rates: The material can be formulated to degrade at specific rates for different applications, allowing customization between greenhouse and nursery, as well as regional conditions
  • Certified to the highest standards: Products will be certified to USDA Biobased Certification, ASTM D6400 industrial compostability, TÜV OK Home Compost Certification, ASTM D5988 soil degradability

Growscape has an exclusive agreement with Kaimarra in the North American horticultural market. The company has already successfully manufactured containers at its Middlefield, Ohio facility, with field trials currently underway across multiple leading growers spanning California, Oregon, Texas, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio, and Ontario, Canada.

ReTerra’s underlying technology is protected by a broad patent spanning thermoforming, film extrusion, and injection molding – meaning it can be used in virtually any standard plastics manufacturing process.

“Kaimarra has built a materials platform for developing high-performance composites that can be tuned for a wide range of applications. Growscape’s ReTerra bioplastic technology is the first commercial use from the Kaimarra platform, and it solves performance, biodegradability, and economics in a single material for the first time. Growscape saw that potential early, and they are bringing it to market with the kind of operational commitment that turns a breakthrough into an industry standard.”

Together, the 2026 Sustainability Report, ReAssure compliance commitment, ReSource Recycling Program, and ReTerra bioplastic technology represent a clear demonstration that Growscape is leading the entire horticultural industry toward a more responsible, resilient future.
