Born from the merger of The HC Companies and Classic Home and Garden, Growscape is committed to protecting our planet while delivering quality and value. When we speak about sustainability, we practice what we preach.

Here, sustainability isn’t just a goal—it’s a guiding principle woven into everything we do. From our mission to lead with innovative solutions to our core values of stewardship, integrity, and continuous improvement, we are growing a future that puts people, planet, and progress first.

Growscape’s mission and vision for sustainability are brought to life through our teams’ daily actions.  In 2023, we tasked each site to gather site workers to discuss sustainability initiatives, improvements, and larger conversations. Empowering everyone to contribute ideas on how we can enhance our sustainability efforts allows greater engagement and reinforces that sustainability is a shared responsibility.

After a few completed projects, the various sites wanted recognition, and there, the Gold Star Award was born! The Growscape Gold Star Award recognizes achievements for teams or facilities in executing projects with substantial environmental impact reductions. A few criteria are a new approach or thinking about a current process, must be a team effort, resulting in sitewide reduction in either energy, water usage or cost reduction. Overall, we have handed out 10 stars with overall savings of $300,000.

Our commitment to sustainability flourishes thanks to the strength of our leadership and forward-thinking mindset of our employees. Brian Cunningham, Vice President of Manufacturing and previously our Plant Manager in Middlefield states, “Our manufacturing teams work every day to minimize our carbon footprint.  In the last 10 years we have reduced electrical consumption by swapping out fluorescent lights for compact LED’s and upgrading our compressed air services drastically reducing leaks. We reduced oil consumption by implementing an oil reclaim process. We’ve also implemented recycling programs for pallets, corrugate, and consumer products.  We’ve done all this while actively reusing >97% of all the scrap plastic we generate in house. For us, sustainability is a welcomed responsibility.”
